Society views burnout and chronic fatigue as purely physical problems– workaholic, not enough rest or play. What if there is more than meets the eye here?
Every single one of my clients has come to me with the symptom or common complaint of fatigue. It is so common these days and worn like a badge of honor. It isn’t just about a full calendar or crappy sleep. It’s deep. Emotional. Energetic. It’s the weight of old, unserving patterns, suppressed feelings, and living out of alignments with our truest selves.
If there is too much noise from social media, you’re confused on where to start, or you’ve tried all the practical fixes and still feel drained, there are hidden emotional roots that need tending.
There is a way through. I believe you. You are not crazy. You can begin to heal from the inside out.
Burnout is Much Larger Than Pushing Yourself to the Breaking Point
Burnout is not about how busy you are. It’s about your intentionality of living.
A vast majority of our population here in the US are chronically fatigued because we pedestalize hustle culture. We override our emotional needs, never check in, power through stress, ignore our bodies cries and screams for help, and stay stuck in roles and routines that are no longer serving us. Because that's all we know, that’s all we’ve been taught to do.
It’s not your fault. Our culture rewards productivity over presence and expects us to keep on trucking know matter how we feel.
Your body keeps the score and eventually it says, “enough is enough.”
Emotional Patterns that Drain Your Energy
Perfectionism
The belief that you have obtain a perfect result is A: exhausting and B: not obtainable as there is no such thing as perfect. You do not have to prove your worth by how well things are done… it’s exhausting. Perfectionism keeps you in a state of high alert, constantly striving and never resting. It completely disconnects you from your needs.
People Pleasing
Saying yes when you really mean or want to say no. Prioritizing others needs and comfort over your own. People pleasing weighs heavily on your soul. It builds quiet resentment that the body then internalizes.
Unprocessed or Unrecognized Grief or Anger
Suppressed emotions do not disappear. They tunnel deeply and begin to rot things from the inside out. If you’ve learned it’s not safe to express big emotions, you unconsciously hold this energy in your nervous system, leading to tension and fatigue. Emotions are just energy in motion, it needs an outlet.
Empathy
Now this is a tricky one. Empathy at it’s core is innocent and full of love. Without solid energetic boundaries, your body will take on what is not yours to carry.
One tool in the toolkit here is the bubble breath. The best way I have learned to create energetic boundaries is to imagine breathing a bubble of protection around myself. Inhale. Starting at your head, exhale the bubble down your body until even your toes are covered. Repeat the mantra, “This is not mine to carry. I do not have to take this energy on.” Continue to breathe and allow the heightened person’s energy to bounce off your bubble. Another visualization can be a mirror. This works really well with toddlers and children with big energy.
Living Out of Alignment
When your daily habits and life do not match your core values or your inner truth, your energy will reflect the disconnect. Burnout is the wake up call, a sign you’re called to level up and that your soul is craving change.
How the Body Stores Emotional Energy
The physical body is not a machine— it’s a messenger.
When emotions are suppressed, the physical body compensates. Muscle tighten, breath becomes shallow, the nervous system remains stuck in fight, flight, freeze or fawn modes. Over time, this chronic stress contributes to exhaustion, digestive issues hormonal imbalances, and immune dysfunction.
You might feel tired all the time— not because you’re broken or there is something wrong with you, but because your body is working overtime to keep your suppressed emotions in check.
Healing is possible. It begins with awareness.
Holistic Tools for Emotional Healing and Energy Recovery
These are not quick fixes. It took you likely 20, 30, 40 or 50 years to get here– be realistic and don’t expect miracles overnight. However, they are powerful sustainable tools to help you release what was never yours to carry so you may begin to feel safe in your body again.
Inner Child Work
Much of our emotional exhaustion stemmed from early patterns where we learned to perform, caretake or silence ourselves to be loved. Reconnecting with your inner child, holding space for her to grieve or be angry will help you identify and rewrite these old stories.
Close your eyes, take three deep breaths and recall a memory where your younger self in a moment of struggle. What does she need to hear? Can you offer her comfort now?
EFT Tapping
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) releases stuck emotional energy through tapping on acupressure points. It’s simple, accessible and effective for stress, overwhelm or self-doubt.

As I’ve covered burnout lives in the body. Gentle movement like yoga, stretching or conscious breathing will lift stress and reconnect you to your physical body.
Journaling
Ponder:
Where in my life am I saying yes when I want to say no?
What am I afraid would happen if I slowed down and prioritized rest?
What emotions have I been avoiding?
Let your journal be an outlet for you to land and express what hasn’t been honored with the safe space it deserves.
Grounding
Bare feet on the ground or spending time without your phone in nature can aid in clearing energetic blocks and restore your natural rhythm.
Your Chronic Fatigue is a Messenger
